Overview
Through the Burning Pages is the outcome of the Game Design 3 "Open Game" assignment (AT2, Semester 2 2025) — a fully original 2D vertical platformer. The witch's potion experiment went wrong and her tower library caught fire. You play as her magical white cat, jumping from one floating spellbook to another to escape the flames.
On the way up, rescue the witch's precious sigils of wisdom, avoid poison bottles and grab the healing potions. Cats have nine lives — but you start with just three. Don't worry: the witch keeps bringing you back; she just hasn't quite mastered the spell.
Characters & world
- Katto (player): born from Witchi's enchanted hat and a drop of moonlight ink; sarcastic on the surface, caring underneath — and the unlikely hero when the library burns
- Witchi: the optimistic young witch living in a tower full of glowing spellbooks and potion bottles, believing every mistake is just a new discovery
- The tower is both library and workshop; fire spreads from the lower floors upward, and the top window is the only escape
Design & tech
- Vertical-climb influences: Once Upon a Tower, Doodle Jump and NS-Shaft
- Unity + C#, WebGL build at 960×600 (16:9), keyboard controls (arrows / WASD)
- Floating books spawn dynamically; the goal window appears after about 200 platforms
- All music and SFX from Freesound.org (CC0): jump, damage, heal and UI feedback
